Projected record – 9-3
Tom Herman has to feel his seat getting warm. After a 2018 season that looked like Texas was finally back, they fell back down in 2019. Injuries played a major role in the disappointing season and the Longhorns look to return to dominance in 2020.
Sam Ehlinger returns for his final season and it is shaping up to be a great one. Texas is loaded on offense and for all the struggles in the Herman era, recruiting hasn’t been one. Freshman RB, Bijon Robinson should be a day one impact player. Brennan Eagles looks ready to take over as the leader of the WR core as well.
The defense should also be a much better unit in 2020. Last season was filled with injuries that thrust young guys into starting roles. Now, most of those players return with more experience. The secondary has the potential to be one of the best in football as well.
The players were some of the best recruits in the country. The coaching staff was overhauled with strong hires to improve results for 2020. Now Tom Herman just needs his squad to put it all together. He is out of excuses and if Texas can’t find a way to turn the corner, Herman could find himself looking for a new job in 2021.
