4. Iowa State
Projected record – 9-3
Matt Campbell needs to find a way to harness the momentum he had going into 2019 and get it back for 2020. After improving every year, 2019 felt like it would be the year Iowa State broke through. However, things remained the same and it felt like a bit of a disappointment.
Brock Purdy returns as one of the best QBs in college football. He should be able to carry this team through any rough spots based on his talent alone. A QB can take a team quite far in college football when they have the talent of Purdy. Breece Hall also emerged last season as a potentially high-end talent. The offensive line has some question marks and could be the downfall if the unit struggles through the season.
The defense looks to continue their trend of strong play. Strong defense with an offense to match could be the perfect coupling for Matt Campbell to try and land a spot in the Big 12 title game. Iowa State also gets the benefit of playing Oklahoma at home. The Cyclones can’t afford any slip ups as they have to travel to Texas, Oklahoma State and TCU.
