9. Texas Tech
Projected record – 5-7
Matt Wells is another newer coach to the Big 12. He had the Red Raiders looking like they could make some noise 2019. But injuries and consistency derailed their season despite some flashes throughout.
Alan Bowman struggled to stay healthy and could be the key to a successful 2020. Even with the injuries, Texas Tech was in almost every game they played. They lost five games by 10 points or less.
Texas Tech will once again have talent at the skill positions. RB SaRodorick Thompson and WR Erik Ezukanma could end up near the top of the conference come years end statistically. However, the defense will also likely be a weak spot once again. An issue that has plagued them for quite some time. Texas Tech finished near the bottom of the Big 12 in scoring defense. For as good as the offense was, winning games while consistently giving up 30+ points isn’t easy.
While the Red Raiders may be next to Kansas in the rankings, they’re a tier above. They fall in the middle of the pack and one or two upsets would move them up the rankings quickly.
