On top of losing their head coach, The Baylor Bears lost their defensive coordinator, Phil Snow, and 9 defensive starters.
The silver lining is Baylor’s returning Senior CB Raleigh Texada, Junior LB Terrel Bernard, and of course, new head coach, Dave Aranda.
Terrel Bernard and Raleigh Texada should step up as a leaders on this relatively green defense. Bernard started 11 games last season and was one of the conference′s tackle leaders last season, with 112 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks and earning a second-team All-Big 12 selection. Texada on the other hand started all 14 games at corner, finishing with 45 total tackles (42 solo), had 2.0 TFL, five pass breakups. These guys will be crucial on the field leaders for Aranda.
Speaking of Aranda, his presence is crucial to Baylor’s success in 2020. Aranda served as the defensive coordinator for an LSU team that capped off a perfect season with a CFP championship after beating Clemson 42–25. Aranda also has a history of making immediate improvements wherever he goes. So, If anyone could handle this type of turnover its Aranda. Aranda’s presence should mitgate any major set backs. Still, a small step back is inevitable.
