Shane Whitter was originally committed to Wake Forest but flipped after his visit to Norman this past weekend.
According to 247sports, the 6′ 222lbs line backer is ranked as the 22nd ILB and 11th overall recruit in North Carolina. He’s currently a senior at Walter M Williams High School (Burlington, NC) playing under head coach Jim McGill
This appears to be a great pick up for Alex Grinch’s speed D. Whitter’s adaptability and athleticism will likely pay dividends for Grinch.
“He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do,” Jim McGill stated. “He came in, played inside backer, but they got him projected to play at outside linebacker on the next level. He played everything for us from Wildcat quarterback, played some tight end, some single side receiver. He did not come off the field“.
Whitter is commit No. 19 for OU’s 2020 class that ranks No. 10 nationally per the 247Sports composite.
While Whitter is only one player, this is a step in the right direction. Now fans can stop complaining OU never recruits any defensive players.
