After Week 2, both Willie Taggart and Jeremy Pruitt are on the “hot seat”.
Pruitt has led Tennessee to their first 0-2 start since 1988. Earlier I praised Pruitt’s recruiting success, but that may not be enough to save him. In week one Tennessee lost to Georgia State 38-30 and in week 2, Tennessee lost in OT to BYU 29-26. In both games Tennessee was favored by Vegas. It’s safe to say that these outright losses to these lack luster non-conference opponents paints a poor picture for Tennessee in 2019.
Fortunately for Pruitt Tennessee was not doing much better before his arrival; so it’s not like he drove this program into the ground, he just hasn’t been able to get them where they need to be.
In Taggart’s first year with Florida State (2018), FSU went 5-7 and missed a bowl game for the first time in decades. In week 1 of 2019 they lost to Boise State 36-31 and then beat ULM (University of Louisiana Monroe?) 45-44 (OT) in week 2. Despite coming out of week 2 1-1, Willie Taggart’s FSU still looks like a dumspter fire. Going into OT with ULM? Really?
Taggart’s work with FSU is particularly alarming because of the amount of talent FSU has and their reputation. Since Taggart took over, FSU is not what they used to be. Oh, and the “dehydrated” excuse is embarrassing.
On the other hand, Jimbo Fisher left FSU a mess so they may cut Taggart some slack.
Who Get’s Fired First?
Jeremy Pruitt is still on the hot seat but Taggart has taken a very talented and successful team and turned it into a bunch of dehydrated chumps, while Pruitt has just failed to fix a struggling program.
