XFL To Have Some Oklahoma Flavor

The AAF went belly up before they could even reach the end of their first season. What played a major hand in the failure was the rush to start before the XFL.

Vince McMahon is taking another shot at a football league and looking to build off his and the AAF experiences to fix previous mistakes. One of the ways to build excitement is having big names involved in the league. One of those names is former Sooners coach, Bob Stoops.

Stoops will be coaching the Dallas franchise for the XFL. Dallas held tryouts on Friday and there were some familiar faces trying to get a shot at the new league.

  • QB Landry Jones
  • WR Durron Neal
  • FB Aaron Ripkowski
  • CB Julian Wilson
  • DE Frank Alexander
  • DT Jordan Wade

Jones is the most notable name on the list playing for the Sooners from 2009-2012. He was also drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and spent six seasons in the NFL.

Whether the league makes it or not is still a looming question. But getting to see some old Sooners is always enjoyable.

The XFL will be holding more tryouts throughout their offseason as they lead up to the inaugural season. Look for more Sooners to pop up as time goes on.

Some other Big 12 names that were at the tryout:
