With The NHL trade deadline on Monday, February 25th rapidly approaching, fans are beginning to wonder what the moves the Bruins will make. One possibility is to go after 27 year old Left Winger, Artemi Panarin on the Columbus Blue Jackets. After this season, Panarin will be an unrestricted free agent. Panarin is 5′ 11″ 168lbs and had 82 points with the Blue Jackets last season and already has 48 points this season.
Artemi would be a good fit for the Bruins as he would be surrounded by high caliber players like Bergeron, Pasternak, and more. I think he would be an excellent addition to the Bruin’s second line with Krejci, or even the first line with Macrhand and Bergeron (after dropping Pasta down with Krejci). The Bruins are so deep in defense they could offer up some quality players both on their roster and down in Providence – Matt Grzelcyk, John Moore, Colby Cave, and Jeremy Lauzon come to mind – without being hit too hard. They even have some offensive talent they could stand to lose like Donato, or JFK. This might appeal to the dumpster fire that is Columbus, as they may want to rebuild next season.
Although it has been documented Columbus wants to do everything they can to keep Panarin, they may not be able to. Columbus has already tempted Panarin to sign an extension after this season but he has told management he’s not ready to do so. If management fears they can’t resign him, they may offer him up before the trade deadline to get whatever they can for him.
If the Bruins acquired Panarin for the rest of the 2018-2019 season they could make a serious push for the cup with this addition offensive weapon. Who knows, Artemi Panarin could love Boston and maybe resign with them after this season. The other option is that they wait until he becomes an unrestricted free agent and pick him up in the off season. This could cost more cap space but the bruins would probably get a better deal in the long run. It seems the Bruins have made so many deals to acquire talent at the AHL level for the future. I would much rather the Bruins clear out some younger talent on their NHL roster and on their Providence roster to acquire a high quality player we can use right now.
Do you think we could see Artemi Panarin in the spoked B?
