In recent history, the Oklahoma Sooners have had some solid recruiting classes. In the past 4 years, the Sooners have been top 2 in the Big 12 and top 11 in the league in recruiting (per 247 composite rankings). Right now, the Sooners 2021 class sits at no. 45 in the league and no. 7 in the Big 12. While that may sound alarming, have no fear Sooners fans. As we head into 2021 the Sooners are gearing up for a monster recruiting class.
While teams like UNC, and Baylor are basking in the glory of a a way-too-early ranking, OU is biding its time. OU is going after some high profile talent, which means their targets won’t commit early. Of these targets, there are four OU fans should keep an eye out for. These targets are leaning toward OU and could have a huge impact on the class of 2021.
Bryce Foster, OG
Bryce Foster. This kid is an absolute unit. The 6′ 4.5″, 330 lbs Texas native is the no. 4 guard in the class of 2021 per 247 sports. He’s a 247 sports 4-star and rivals 5-star. Back in February, foster released his top 5: Oklahoma, LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M, and Texas. Luckily for OU, 67% of 247’s crystal ball predictions have him headed to OU (33% have him going to TAMU).
Mario Williams, WR
Next up is WR Mario Williams. Williams is the no. 4 WR and no. 40 recruit in the nation according to 247 sports. He’s already touted as a “Power Five starter with mid to early round NFL Draft upside“. Williams is getting recruited hard by SEC schools but OU has the edge. His top 5 consists of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma, but 100% of 247’s crystal ball predictions have him going to OU.
Camar Wheaton, RB
Now we’ve got 5-star RB Camar Wheaton. Wheaton is the no. 2 RB and no. 19 recruit in the country. He’s a two-sport athlete playing football and track. In his junior football season, he earned the Texas District 10-6A Overall MVP. Wheaton is being recruited by everyone and their mother. Some of his more lucrative offers include OU, LSU, Texas, SMU, and Alabama. He has been more quite about his recruitment than others on this list. However, 50% of 247’s crystal ball predictions have him going to OU. Combine that will the star power Demarco Murray at RB coach for OU and I like OU’s chances.
Caleb Williams, QB
Last and certainly not lease we’ve got 5-star QB Caleb Williams. This 6′ 2″ 209 lbs Washignton, DC native is the no. 1 dual style QB and no. 5 recruit in the nation. Williams is “the most talented quarterback prospect to come from the Mid-Atlantic region in a decade“. He’s projected to be a multi-year starter at the Power Five level and 1st round NFL draft pick. Williams released his top 3 a couple weeks ago which included OU, LSU, and Maryland. If you ask me (and 247 sports), Caleb Williams is a lock for OU. Where else would a no. 1 QB go?
Upcoming 2021 Class
So there you have it. OU is currently pretty low in the rankings but they are gearing up for a monster class. They are the clear favorite for at least 4 top tier recruits. If the Sooners are able to score all of these guys, this could be Lincoln Riley’s best class.
