It’s safe to say Texas Tech had a rough go in 2019. Expectations were not particularly high, but 4-8 overall and 2-7 in the Big 12 was disappointing. Despite last year, I’m optimistic about the Red Raiders in 2020.
Texas Tech 2020
Head coach Matt Wells, defensive coordinator Keith Patterson, and offensive coordinator David Yost, all return for their second season. This should provide the Red Raiders with more stability. In addition, I’m confident we will see Alan Bowman turn into a reliable starting QB. If he can stay healthy that is. It’s not all perfect though.
This is all assuming Bowman stay’s healthy. If he loses more time due to injuries I fear the Raiders won’t be able to catcha. rhythm. In addition, the defense will have to make up for the loss of LB Jordyn Brooks and DL Broderick Washington, among others.
Ultimately, I think Bowman stays healthy and Texas Tech’s offense takes a step forward in 2020. So, I see Texas hitting the “over” on their current win total of 5.5 (per BetOnline.Ag). My game by game projection is below.
|September 5||@ UTEP||W|
|September 12||Alabama State||W|
|September 26||@ Iowa State||L|
|October 31||@ Oklahoma State||L|
|November 7||@ Kansas State||W|
|November 21||@ TCU||L|
This puts Texas Tech at 6-6 overall and 3-6 in the Big 12. While this is not glamorous its a step up from last year. It’s possible Texas Tech can squeak out another win against TCU or even Baylor, but I’m not putting my money on it.
