You can’t get much more of a compliment than being compared to the 2011 Alabama defense. you wouldn’t have to look far to find someone hailing them the best defense ever. They also played a major role in winning Saban another championship. Kirby may finally have the pieces he has been looking for.
The Georgia Defense
Georgia has had a quite the impact on the recruiting trail and that is a big reason for the hype. However they also return 80% of their defense from last year.
Georgia was ranked No. 59, with 65 percent of its production returning, 50 percent on offense (98th in the country), and 80 percent on defense (21st in the country). For reference, Georgia Tech is No. 2, Kentucky is No. 25, Tennessee is No. 50, Florida is No. 61, Auburn is No. 78, Alabama is No. 88, and LSU is No. 126.Via 247 Sports
Returning talent is always a good thing. But in the case of Georgia Tech returning just about everyone, that doesn’t mean there is a title run on the horizon in 2020. However not only does Georgia return most of their defense, they return an SEC leading, top 10 overall defense.
The No. 5-ranked Bulldogs have responded on defense, allowing just 8 offensive touchdowns in nine games, all of them via the pass game. It’s a defense that leads the SEC and ranks in the Top 10 in the nation in all four major statistical categories: Total defense, scoring defense, rushing defensive and pass efficiency defense. The Bulldogs are also No. 1 in the nation in Red Zone defense. In fact, Georgia is the only team in the Division I, II or III that has not allowed a rushing touchdown.Via Dawg Nation
In a year with an impressive transfer QB and the fans desperate for Georgia to take the next step, it looks like Kirby Smart finally has everything in place. Georgia could be the new leader in the SEC.
