Is Alex Grinch Interested In The Colorado Job?

It looks like Colorado is interested in Oklahoma’s Alex Grinch, but is Grinch interested in Colorado?

Grinch’s Resume

It’s no wonder Grinch is at the top of Colorado’s list. In 2019 Grinch took a sub 100 ranked OU defense to just shy of top 25 (in total defense). While his defense wasn’t perfect, it came up BIG in the Big 12 championship against Baylor and (in my opinion) actually won the regular season ISU game for OU.

In 2018, Grinch acted as Ohio states co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach where the team went 13-1. Before that he was the defensive coordinator and secondaries coach for Washington state. Before his arrival in 2014, the Washington State Cougars ranked 99th nationally in total defense (442.3 ypg), 127th in pass defense (296.6 ypg) and 127th in turnovers gained (8). In 2017, he presided over a WSU unit that ranked 16yh in total defense (323.3 ypg), ninth in turnovers gained (28).

Grinch To Colorado U?

OU fans should get used to this. Anytime there’s an opening in the PAC-12 Grinch’s name will get thrown around. He’s one of the top young minds in CFB and has ties to that conference.

With that said, I wouldn’t worry too much. Grinch appears absolutely committed to Oklahoma for now. He didn’t even interview with WSU when they were interested. At the end of the day being head coach is great but I think he’d much rather continue making playoff runs in the BIG 12 than be a head coach at a middle of the road PAC 12 team.

In addition to that, OU is taking pretty good care of Grinch. Grinch is the first assistant coach in any sport, to have commanded a salary of at least $1 million. He’s got a 3 year contract with Oklahoma with a shot at reaching a $2 million salary before his contract is up. And while Grinch has accomplished a lot in Norman, he has yet to get a national championship.

It’s only a matter of time until Grinch moves on from Oklahoma, but now is not that time. Grinch is going to continue to build his resume, if he can notch a natty or at least a few more playoff runs his value will sky rocket. That’s when he’ll leave.
