ESPN will do anything to keep the “Oklahoma’s defense is bad” narrative alive.
Is the defense perfect? Absolutely not, but they’re definitely ahead of where they were. Criticism is one thing, but unwarranted trashing without any basis for your claim is unacceptable.
So here’s some stats to support my claim that ESPN is full of you know what.
- Oklahoma’s defense held the the then 40th ranked offense (TCU) to 200 total yards and 17pts (7 came from TCU’s defense).
- Oklahoma is currently 31st in total defense, LSU is 53rd (Oklahoma is also playing in arguably the most offense focused conference in the league).
- Oklahoma is the 13th best P5 defense against P5 opponents in total yards.
- Alex Grinch was named a semi finalist for the Brooke’s Award (which goes to the top assistant coach in college football).
These guys are simply disregarding the stats (and probably game film) to keep their agenda alive. If you watched the last two games you’d know the defense was a huge part of those wins.
Oklahoma still needs to put together 4 quarts on both sides of the ball before we can call them championship caliber, but don’t pretend their defense hasn’t improved.
