KJ Hamler’s Setback
Penn State WR KJ Hamler suffered a head/neck injury during this past week’s game against the Indiana Hoosiers. It appeared to be either a stinger or a mild concussion. Hamler was seen pacing the sidelines after being removed from the game. It was also reported that he attempted to lobby his way back into the game. These facts lead me to believe there is hope the playmaker will be available for this coming week’s contest against the division rival Ohio State Buckeyes.
Big 10 Standout
This may come as a shock to many, but KJ Hamler is the most electric player in the entire Big 10. The diminutive dynamo has been the lifeblood of the Nittany Lion’s pass game. He has paced the receiver group with a 44/739/8 stat line. In addition to his receiving duties he has provided a number of big returns in the special teams area.
The Sophomore playmaker has 13 straight games with a 20+ yard reception, the longest such streak in the nation. As critical as he is to the PSU offense, his services were not needed to secure a win over the 3rd place team in the Big 10 East Division. In order to have a legitimate shot in next week’s contest against an undefeated Ohio State squad the Nittany Lions are going to need Hamler.
Make no mistake, Ohio State will be the toughest competition Penn State has faced this season. The Nittany Lions have quality wins over Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, leading up to this Saturday’s game. The contest in the Horseshoe will determine the Big 10 East Division winner. With both teams firmly inside the top 10, an invitation to the college football playoff could also be one the line.
Ohio State is currently the number one ranked defense in all of college football. Penn State is ranked number 13, so this is sure to be a defensive battle. Each team will need all hands on deck for this one, especially the boys from happy valley.
