Houston QB D’Eriq King is planning to sit out the rest of this season with the idea of transferring to another school, a person familiar with the process said.Via Houston Chronicle
King, a senior, would be eligible to redshirt and have another year of eligibility.
King would then leave his options open, which include entering the transfer portal.
He passed for 2,982 yards and 36 touchdowns as a junior before being sidelined with a knee injury.
Against Tulane on Thursday, King set the FBS record for consecutive games with a passing or rushing touchdown with 15 to pass former Florida star Tim Tebow.
Everyone thought West Virginia missed out when Dana Holgorsen decided to leave for Houston. Houston was a G5 school and seemed to be headed up. West Virginia was losing everyone and a full on rebuild was a forgone conclusion. Things haven’t gone quite the way everyone thought.
Houston is sitting at 1-3 after Tulane stormed back for the win last week. King was expected to be a stud this season after a monster season last year. But things have been rocky to say the least since Holgorsen has taken over.
We have seen players leave or transfer out in season. Just last year Kelly Bryant shut his season down after getting benched early in the year. But a starter and a preseason Heisman dark horse is impressive. I was on board that Holgorsen would make this team a legit threat. Him getting their star QB to quit and starting off 1-3 was not exactly something I would have predicted.
West Virginia has to be feeling good with everything and Neal Brown making strides already. WVU is sitting at 3-1 with an impressive win over NC State. They are still a work in progress but things could be a lot worse. Like your QB ready to leave because of the team falling apart by week four worse.
