Kirby Smart took the high road when Dan Mullen took shots at Georgia over Justin Fields. I’m not sure if Smart used some dark arts or Mullen just paniced under the pressure, but since then it has been a disaster.
The 2019 class has fallen apart on Florida. They went from the number nine class on signing day to currently sitting at 17.
Henderson became the fifth member of the Gators’ 2019 recruiting class to leave. The other four were also four-star prospects: defensive back Chris Steele (transferred to USC), quarterback Jalon Jones (left after being accused of sexual battery), linebacker Diwun Black (going to a junior college) and offensive lineman Deyavie Hammond (junior college). Another signee, Wardrick Wilson, hasn’t yet joined as his visa situation plays out.Via tampabay.com
Sophomore safety, John Huggins was also dismissed in the last week. Mullen had high expectations coming into the season as Florida is supposed to be one of the best in the country. All of that hype and trash talk resulted in the worst recruiting class for Florida in the Rivals era.
Mullen has been great for a soundbite and to take a shot at a rival. But running a program has been a bit more difficult. Since his shot at Georgia and Kirby Smart, things have just fallen apart.
Florida opens the season against Miami in week 0. If they drop a game or two early, Florida could end up in a tail spin for the rest of the season.
