Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet broke his collarbone during the team’s practice Thursday and is facing three to six weeks on the sidelines, according to Tom Loy of Irish Illustrated.Via Bleacher Report
This is pretty bad news out of Notre Dame camp. Kmet was expected to be a big time player for the Fightimg Irish and TE 1 this season.
Kmet took off from baseball this year to focus solely on football. He was looking like a candidate to be the next great tight end at Notre Dame.
While he is questionable for the opener, a broken collarbone is a tough thing to recover from. Multiple cases in the past of players rushing back only to reinjure is common. Lucky for Kmet, this happened early in camp and he won’t miss a large portion of the season while he heals.
