Good news for Sooners fans – Jalen Hurts is the real deal and he loves Oklahoma.
Hurts went 11 for 14 passes with 176 yards and a TD. Oklahoma’s new QB also rushed for a touchdown. Not bad at all for a QB new to the system. Oh and Hurts was playing behind an entirely new offensive line. Overall, Hurts looked comfortable and confident; it looked like he belonged in Oklahoma’s line up.
Redshirt freshman Tanner Mordeca had an up and down game. He hit Lee Morris for a 58-yard touchdown on the game’s opening drive, but didn’t look as comfortable as Hurts throughout the game. With that said I don’t think he looked terrible, just needs some fine tuning.
On the other side of the ball Oklahoma looked pretty good too. Justin Broiles recorded an INT while other players like DB’s Tre Brown, Jamal Morris, Parnell Motley and Eric Gallegos, surely stood out. It looked as if Grinch has been able to coach this team into a more cohesive unit, but time will tell.
The season is shaping up to be a great one. Lincoln Riley did an excellent job in the off season acquiring talent. The “new” offensive line, Jalen Hurts, and Alex Grinch seem to have made a positive impact’ we’ll see if this holds true in the regular season.
