Recruits Having Impact Before Reaching Campus

Notre Dame has been recrutiting the QB position as good as any lately. Jurkovec, Pyne, and Tyler Buchner are all highly touted recruits out of high school. Jurkovec is already on campus but Pyne and Buchner seem to be already having an impact.

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star wide receiver Beaux Collins is an elite talent from the class of 2021. The 6-4, 195-pounder has 20 offers to his credit and is listed as the No. 59 overall player in the country according to 247Sports…“I’m blessed and excited to have received another dream offer from the University of Notre Dame,” wrote Collins on Twitter after he received the offer…Collins says he’ll be back at Notre Dame on Thursday, March 21. It’ll be his first trip on campus since landing the offer and his second overall. This time he’ll be joined by some teammates from St. John Bosco.

Collins hasn’t committed to Notre Dame but there is definite mutual interest. Notre Dame fans have always been upset, and rightfully so, that Notre Dame can’t seem to and the big names in recruiting under Brian Kelly. But with big names rolling at one of the most important positions, that can be changing.

Notre Dame has the number one and number two recruit at the tight end position in the 2020 class. The same class with Drew Pyne. Of the five recruits committed, three are ranked inside the top 200 Nationally according to 247 Sports.

Notre Dame tight end commit Michael Mayer

Seth McGowan is another name to keep an eye on as he has Notre Dame on his short list. The four star running back out of Texas is ranked 110 in the country and number 11 at his position. He hasn’t indicated that he is leaning towards a certain school yet but with the addition of runnng back coach Lance Taylor, there is reasons for optimism.

With signing day for the class of 2020 still months away, this is all a guessing game. Trying to decide where 16, 17, 18 year old kids are headed in the next few years can change daily. But Notre Dame is recruiting with the top five teams in the country.

The Recruit Rankings Are Deceiving

Notre Dame wrapped up the 2019 class with the 15th ranked class according to 247 Sports. That is a good class but we would like to see something elite for Notre Dame to reach that next level. But don’t worry, Notre Dame is getting plenty of quality.

The rankings are based on total points added together based on the points a recruit receives. When a player is graded he is given a rating such as .994, that would be a five star player. So a team can bring in more players with a lesser grade and get a higher recruiting class rank. What makes Notre Dame’s class great is the average ranking of the player.

Notre Dame’s recruits in 2019 had an average grade of 90.60. That is higher then Tennessee and Clemson, both who had a higher recruiting class ranking than Notre Dame. That is right next to Oregon and LSU, both had top seven classes in the country.

This is showing that Notre Dame is recruiting with the best of them. They have started to recruit heavily in Georgia and it ended up paying off with five star recruit, Kyle Hamilton. This is what Notre Dame needs to get to the next level and catch the likes of Clemson and Alabama. It all starts with big names at quarterback. Skill position players want to play with the best and Notre Dame looks like they are bringing some of the best to South Bend. Continued on field success and big names at QB could finally land some of the big names at skill positions the fans are clamoring for.
