Neal Brown has been navigating his first offseason in Morgantown and it has the country, as well as the fans, taking notice. Berry Tramel of newsok.com ranked Brown as the number one coaching hire this season. That is a list including the likes of Hugh Freeze and Les Miles.
Brown had a tall task to tackle when he arrived in Morgantown. replacing Dana Holgorsen wouldn’t be easy but Neal Brown hasn’t missed a step. After moving to the area and taking over the program, he didn’t lose a single recruit from the 2019 class. He actually added three including Oklahoma transfer QB, Austin Kendall.
Brown has also offered over 200 scholarships since taking over the Mountaineers. To say Neal Brown has been busy would be an understatement, but he is just getting started.
Brown has avoided the program taking a step back with the coaching change. Now he has to grow from where Holgorsen left off and Austin Kendall is a great start. Now Brown just has to recruit more than the scraps left over from Big 12 powers.
Under Holgorsen, West Virginia never had a recruiting class finish higher then 35th. Seeing how there are 120+ teams at the FBS level, that is pretty good. But if West Virginia wants to get a Big 12 title and beyond, it isn’t enough. West Virginia currently has the 40th ranked class for the upcoming 2020 cycle. While there is still time to make up ground, he needs to continue to build the culture he is trying to establish. Neal Brown has been turning heads early, he will have to follow up on all of the praise and attention soon.
