Most fans should know the name Kevin Austin going into 2019 – he is a future star after all. The Sophomore only had five catches in his Freshman season but he racked up 90 yards. With Miles Boykin headed to the NFL, he could be poised to take the lead as the next big time receiver at Notre Dame.
Notre Dame’s Future Star?
Austin is tall and has speed to compliment. The 6’3 Sophomore was a four star recruit out of high school and came in as a top 100 player. Here is a quick look at what he was able to do in high school.
Austin is tall, has strong hands, can go up and get it and can break tackles. There isn’t a whole lot more you can ask for when looking for a dynamic receiver. Going into his Sophomore year and having time now in the weight program will only help. 2019 could be the year of Kevin Austin.
Chase Claypool is pretty much locked in as the number one receiver for 2019. Chris Finke will return to his role in the slot and then it comes down to Michael Young and Kevin Austin. Young should be familiar to fans with some sparse playing time last season.
Young is going into his Junior season and had seven catches for 135 yards and a touchdown last year. He had the leg up on Austin because of his time in the program but 2019 will bring in two experiences receivers. Whichever one wins the starting job will certainly earn it but look for the second year bump. We have witnessed players like Golden Tate and Will Fuller thrive in their second year. Kevin Austin has the intangibles to become the next Michael Floyd at Notre Dame. With spring practice about to kick off, we will continue to cover the climb of the hopeful receiver. But even with all of the familiar faces returning to the Notre Dame offense, Kevin Austin is a name to remember.
