Rask is Back in Black (and gold)

I have never been more happy to be wrong. I initially thought this could have been another Tim Thomas situation, but I’m glad it wasnt. Rask returned after a 5- day leave yesterday morning around 10 am and was apparently first on the ice for their away practice. After their morning skate on tuesday, Rask had this to say:

“First and foremost, I want to thank all of the people who sent me messages and contacted me and supported me,”. Second of all, I want to thank the Boston Bruins for giving me the opportunity to take time off [to be] with my family. I’ve never been more proud to be a part of this family. This is a family, we are a family and we take care of each other when times are tough. The being said, I have a job and my job is to be a hockey goalie for the Boston Bruins. And I also have another job title, and that is a family man. This was a time that, deep inside my heart, I felt like I needed to take time to be with my family and make things right so I can be back here and focus on my job. And that took three days [but] I’m back here and I’m back to work, and I’m ready to battle with these guys. …I appreciate that I got the privacy and the time I needed and I’m ready to move on now.”

Although we don’t know why he was gone, it’s easy to see that Rask is a class act. Rask was only out for five days and when he returned he was nothing but grateful to his fans and his organization for their support. Being first out on the ice just solidifies that his head is back in the game.

The Bruin’s play tonight against Colorado but coach Cassidy confirmed that Halak will be playing. I think this is a good call and I think everyone would agree with that. It will be interesting to see how Rask plays once he gets his first start, which may take a little while. I think clearing this personal issue will give Rask the opportunity to play better and more consistant. Considering the way the team has been playing over the past week it might be good to ride it out with Halak until he needs a break before giving Rask his shot. Let us know when you think Rask will get his next start and how you think he will do.

Go B’s
