Irish Struggle, Hold 8 Point Lead at Half

What has been a rough outing so far for the Irish as they only have an 8 point lead at halftime. This was a game I expected Notre Dame to start slow but they have been stuck in first gear. After picking up 69 yards on the first 2 plays, the Irish offense has went stagnant. Wimbush has been especially pedestrian between missing throws or just throwing it up into coverage on multiple occasions. The few highlights have been Jafar Armstrong and the Irish defense. Armstrong scored another rushing touchdown early after taking the handoff from who else but Ian Book. The defense by no means has been lights out as they have taken a bend dont break mentality. Given that they have been put into tough spots with the offense sputtering doesn’t help. The issue early was defensive backs playing soft and Ball St ate them up with short passes underneath the coverage.

Looking forward to the second half, you have to hope they wake up and play like the team a week ago. The question now comes down to Ian Book or keep rolling with Wimbush. It hasn’t all been his fault but he has struggled no doubt. Ian book is the better passer which could help open up the running game. That and 4 of his last 5 snaps have been touchdowns.

Give Wimbush a shot to pick it up to start the second half but he needs to have a short leash.
