After the 24-17 win over Michigan, Notre Dame has moved up 4 spots to number 8. To start a discussion, what is the consensus among fans? It’s still early and frankly, it’s tough to tell how talented this team is this early on. I won’t take anything away from the win Saturday. Anytime the Irish beat Michigan is a big day in my house. But, is this team truly a top 10 talent?
Looking ahead at the schedule is the likes of Ball St. and Wake Forest. Then things get interesting with Stanford and Virginia Tech coming up at the end of September and early October. This is when the Irish will prove if they really belong. While I feel this team has some serious talent, an 8 spot just feels a bit high for a 7 point win at home over a Michigan team that went 8-5 last season. More then anything, Notre Dame has been here recently and I’ve been hurt before. I keep getting my hopes up with these early season rankings only to watch them tumble in November. The difference could be if Wimbush continues to improve or Ian Book finds his way onto the field and shines.
Win or lose I’ll stand by the Fighting Irish, but I seriously hope Brian Kelly can fight his demons of seasons past.
Let me know what you think of the new rankings and where Notre Dame belongs below.
